A tired husband went home from work. He then saw his wife cooking as he enters the door.
With a low voice, he asked, "What are you cooking?"
Thinking his voice was not loud enough, he asked her again with a louder tone, "What are you cooking?"
Feeling frustrated, he walked closer to her and asked, "What are you cooking?"
The wife then turned around and said, "For the third time, it's curry!"
Hmmm... now who did not hear who?
Stories and stuff both real and fictional. I hope these help when you need some illustration for your public speaking engagement, preaching, and anything like those. It's also good for just reading along.

Voices In High Tune
On my way to church with my twin daughters our bus stopped at the mall to pick up passengers. One by one they stepped onto the doorway. The last passenger who went in stopped to tell something to the driver. Her companions, a child and a young adult, went straight to the back. She was asking the driver to let her in without a fare card (that is, bus ticket) because she lost it in the mall.
Shortly after she finished her statements, the driver immediately said, "Ma'am, if you don't have a ticket, you need to exit the bus." The lady then repeated her story. This time with a little but higher tone.
Then it became a cycle. She talks. He talks back. It was like listening to a student of a music lessons repeatedly singing the same line of a song that gets higher everytime.
I felt the driver's urge to stop the argument when he said, "If you keep raising your voice, I will keep raising my voice. You don't have a ticket, you need to exit the bus."

Father, Son, Horse, and an Instruction
A servant was given an instruction by his king to deliver a message to another kingdom. He gave him a horse and some food for his travel.
With the king's permission, he brought his son, a teenager, with him.
Along their journey, they heard some people talking about them saying they should give their horse a break. So they both get off the horse.
As they walk they heard another group of people talking about them saying they're not using their heads. They have a horse but not even one of them is riding it.
So the father decided to get his son ride on the horse.
Along the way, they heard another group of people saying, "What kind of a son is this? Why wouldn't he let his father get the ride? he's stronger."
So they switched. This time the father is riding the horse, the son walking.
Now a group of people said they should both ride in the horse so they did.
And the cycle continued until they decided not to listen to what they hear anymore. They have the king's instruction anyways.
